Hardware and RAID configuration:
This was a Lacie NAS with 5 x 500GB hard drives. The size of the lost volume was 2 TB. The RAID configuration was not known.
Problem:
The customer was able to clone two drives with bad sectors
but had problems determining the RAID configuration. There were many possible configurations including RAID 0, RAID 5, RAID 6, spanned volume, etc.
Diagnosis:
We ran an analysis and found that this was a spanned volume over two RAID 0 arrays.
Solution:
We found the correct settings for the two RAID 0 arrays. We reconstructed the arrays in File Scavenger® and then created a spanned volume from the arrays.
File Scavenger® supports spanned volume over RAID 0, RAID 5 or RAID 6. It also supports RAID 0 over RAID 5 or RAID 6.
Result:
We were able to recover the original files and folder structures on the NTFS partition (650,000 files totaling 1.5 TB).
