File
Scan
Scans the hard drive to look for files based on the options selected.
Save
Saves the files selected from the list at the bottom half of the window to the Destination folder.
Pause
Pauses the current scanning or saving activity. A paused operation can later be resumed or aborted.
Advanced Volumes
Reconstructs a broken RAID 0, RAID 5 or spanned volume (volume set). If a RAID
volume is corrupted or reformatted but not broken, do not use this command unnecessarily to avoid complicating the recovery.
Properties or Preview
Displays the properties of the file, folder or volume currently selected. If a picture file (such as those with
the extension BMP, JPG, PNG, TIF, etc.) is being selected, displays the picture in reduced size.
Session
Load
Restores a previous session from a File Scavenger® Session file.
Save
Saves the current state of File Scavenger to a file. The session can be restarted via the Load function. This
method can save minutes or even hours of scanning.
Depending on
the number of files found, this file can be a few kilobytes to many megabytes. It must be saved onto a drive other than the problem drive to
avoid overwriting lost data.
Disk Image
A disk image file is an exact copy of a drive. It can be used during data recovery so that the original disk can
be safely stored away.
Load
Adds a disk image file to the Look In list of
drives. Once added, a disk image file can be scanned just like an ordinary drive.
Create
Creates a disk image of the drive currently selected in Look In.
Load VMDK Files
Adds one or a chain of linked VMware's' virtual machine disks (VMDK) to the Look In list of drives.
Load VHD/VHDX Files
Adds one or a chain of Microsoft's virtual hard disks (VHD) to the Look In list of drives.
