Recovering NAS devices
A NAS device is actually a special-purpose computer in its own right, usually running the Linux operating system. The hard drives are usually partitioned into a few small volumes for the NAS operating system and a large data volume. Thus the data volume is a software-based RAID. The recovery procedure for NAS is, therefore, similar with the following likely settings:
- Backward, symmetric parity rotation for RAID 5.
- 64 KB block size.
- The RAID partition being the largest partition.
